Command Your Day with Pastor Niel Petersen
Our mornings can fill with noise before we have even left the house. Messages arrive, news demands attention, and yesterday's concerns return. In the third Command Your Day episode, Pastor Niel Petersen turns to 1 Kings 19:11–12 and the quiet voice Elijah hears after the wind, earthquake, and fire.
Make space to pay attention
The passage draws our attention to God's encounter with Elijah. In this devotion, the invitation is to practice stillness rather than allow every demand to determine our focus. Psalm 46:10 calls us to recognize who God is. A few unhurried minutes can become a meaningful way to begin the day.
Let Scripture shape your listening
Set down the phone and read the passage slowly. Ask what it reveals about God's character and care. Bring the decisions ahead of you into prayer. Discernment grows as we return to God's Word and remain willing to receive wise counsel. A passing impression needs to be considered thoughtfully.
A practice for this morning
Give five minutes to quiet prayer before opening another feed. Read 1 Kings 19:11–13. Write one sentence about what you notice in the passage, and one faithful response you can carry into the day. Return to that sentence when your attention begins to scatter.
Pray with me
Father, help me make room for You today. Guide my attention, shape my thinking through Your Word, and give me wisdom for the conversations and decisions ahead. Teach me to respond from trust rather than hurry. Amen.
Today's response
I will make space for Scripture and prayer. I will seek God's wisdom and allow His truth to shape the way I respond to the noise around me.
